Biography:
Sara Sweet Rabidoux founded the contemporary dance company, hoi polloi in 1997. She received her BA in choreography from Hampshire College ('93) and her MFA in choreography from Smith College ('98). Sara has been the co-director at the Bates Dance Festival’s Youth Arts Program since 1995 and has been a guest artist at Hampshire College, Smith College, Mesa State College, Opera Boston, Texas Women’s University, Matsuyama University, Emory University, Bates College, Phillips Andover Academy, Keene State, and Mount Holyoke.  Sara was an artist-in-residence at the Djerassi Foundation where she spent a month creating new work. Last year, Sara was selected as 1 of 5 choreographers for an international exchange with Japan where she spent a month touring, performing and creating new work. In the past 3 years Sara has been awarded 2 grants from the LEF Foundation both for $10,000 for the creation and presentation of new work. Most recently she received a grant from the Moving Image Fund of the creation of a filmic adaptation of The Nutcracker called Cracker, to be shot later this year at MASS MoCA. Sara is a member of Ryan Landry's Gold Dust Orphans and also the Northeast Corridor’s favorite musical group, Heloise and the Savoir Faire

Sara moved to Somerville in 1999 and absolutely refuses to live anywhere else—that includes Williamsburg!  Somerville is home to the best stuff around including, The Miracle 5, Redbones, Vinny’s at Night, and Johnny’s Foodmaster. She and her husband bought a home last year near Inman Square and vow to mesmerize, cherish and protect their adopted city for all time. Sara is embarrassed she has yet to visit the Somerville Museum and plans to go very soon.

Events:
show, 21 June 2006-Labor Day:

This summer Sara’s choreography can be seen on stage in Ryan Landry’s latest musical, Cleopatra every Wednesday night at the Crown & Anchor in Provincetown, MA.

Heloise and the Savoir Faire may also be in your area—keep checking for dates!  For the time being, hoi polloi is on an extended hiatus as they transfer into the world of dramatic dance film!
