BiographyCalled "a jazz artist of uncommon range and depth of feeling" by the Boston Globe, versatile vocalist/arranger Ruthie Ristich has been an active performer and group leader for more than two decades. Focusing on lyrical music that tells a story or carries a message, her band has included brother-friends Alain Mallet, Ben Wittman, Ira Coleman, Teese Gohl, Bob Moses and many other world-class musicians.
Ruthie's years of experience as a Berklee-trained musician, coupled with a Master's Degree in Film Studies from Harvard University, inform her other major pursuits, including work as an award winning filmmaker. She is also a voice teacher, children’s media arts educator, and performer/producer at events benefiting environmental, sociopolitical, and children’s charities. A percentage of the sales from her CD, Carefully Taught (Skydancer Productions), a compilation of classic songs she has arranged and recorded since 1985, will be donated to the Hague Appeal for Peace and their Global Appeal for Peace Education.
Ruthie lived in Somerville from 1984-1992, migrated to Cambridge, then came back to live near Union Square in 2004.
