Biography:First and foremost, Fred is an entertainer who loves to sing. Fred
sings with the doo-wop group The Family Jewels; also with two
commercial dance bands, Blue Heaven and Elated, and in Arlington's
community choir, The Mystic Chorale. Fred uses his velvety bass
baritone voice in many other ways. He records books on tape. He does
voiceover work for radio spots, TV ads, museum exhibits, and corporate
videos. He has recorded character voices for children's educational
CDs. He also loves to interact with children through reading,
storytelling, and singing.
You can hear Fred's lead vocals on two CDs by The Family Jewels,
Saturday Night and Rockin' Strong on the High'n'Dry label. There is
also a very obscure '60s album, Bagatelle Live Saturday Night on ABC
Paramount Records.
Fred's background vocals grace countless music projects, including
those of notables Peter Wolf and Patty Larkin. Fred's on-camera
credits include a skit for Sesame Street that was broadcast for
several years, a bit part in a movie with Richie Havens, and corporate
videos.
When he is not singing or recording, Fred is likely to be reading
books on African American history, swing dancing, cooking, gardening,
writing, (he just finished a children's story about a squirrel who
wants to be a pampered house pet), traveling, painting, playing
pool, shuffle board, or riding his 40 lb. 1963 Schwinn Varsity bicycle
from Somerville to Portsmouth, New Hampshire (no kidding).
